Smith Oaks - 04
The photos today are a continuation from yesterday. Remember that huge stick/limb the egret was carrying? That branch continued to give this bird trouble the closer he got to the nest. You see the neck is pretty contorted in the first photo and a major readjustment in the second photo with the open beak. The end result is seen in the third photo. Sometimes you just have to go with the cards dealt you! This might be my favorite shot of the trip. You never know what you might capture in a shot. This whole sequence was just another bird passing by with a stick. I had just about decided to not take so many photos as there wasn't anything particularly unusual about the sights that day. We were a few weeks too early to see better shots (like those I shared from the 2016 trip). This trip was about meeting up with friends I had not seen in many months. The camera was almost a distraction. I look at this sequence and think of my friend Spencer. "If you're not shooting, you're not getting". I can imagine his excitement had he been there with us and maybe he was. I miss that man.
