Kodiak 9/19 - Driving 01
After a packed Saturday, Sunday was a bad weather day and we just visited at the house. We needed more Penny (dog) and Athena (cat) time anyway! Monday (9/19) goes back into a work week so Donnice and I decide to drive around on our own a little. We drive out Rezanof Road that somewhere turns in Chiniak Highway - all two-lane roads. This is the same road that crosses the Russian River and Sargent Creek where we saw the bears back on 9/15. The road takes you South out of Kodiak and eventually goes all the way to Fossil Beach - the longest road that I know on Kodiak Island. We did not go that far on this drive as we would save that for all 4 of us later. Gas was a little over $3 at home but it was barely under $6 here! There are only 3 gas stations on island and whoever owns that distributorship is making a killing! The Coast Guard base has a pump for their people but it is only 10-15 cents lower than in town.
The weather was still a bit less than great with light rain/sprinkles continuing from the day before. Even bad weather can still bring beauty on this island. The clouds are the best light diffuser ever created and some of the fall colors took the opportunity to shine a bit. These photos were taken at low tide giving a marsh view of the end of the bay. We were not far past the Russian River bridge as the road goes around the harbor / bay of the town.
Thanks,
Doug White
