Kodiak 9/17 - Pillar Mtn 01
This was a jam-packed day as after bears in the morning and Fort Abercrombie mid-day, we drove to the top of Pillar Mountain in the late afternoon. This is the mountain with the wind turbines on it sitting above the city. It is probably the highest point accessible by car (though carefully, the road is full of potholes and not paved for most of it). Pillar Mountain is about 1200 feet elevations but looks and feels much larger - but then again, you can see sea level for perspective! It provides a beautiful overlook of the area. The ground is covered in low-growing moss and feels like you are walking on tundra despite volcanic rock under you.
The first two shots are very similar as they were taken about 30 feet apart with a slightly different zoom on the lens. If I had to choose, I would probably give the nod to the first one as it has more clouds and you see more of the red in some of the foliage.
Thanks,
Doug White
