Kodiak 9/15 - 07

These photos are mostly of the sow. When we arrived, she was further up the Russian River eating salmon. Our trip was towards the end of the salmon run and we saw a good portion of the fish were already close to death as they had lost much of their color. One term for them is zombies. When the salmon die naturally, they are still part of the food chain. It was pretty common to see the bears going through the area cleaning up any scraps left on these fish. This low-effort cleanup seemed to be the call of the day for this hazy morning. For my photographer friends, these photos required full zoom (580 mm) plus low light settings of ISO 6400, 1/250 s, f/8 - challenging at best and requiring additional editing tools/techniques.
